In a new whitepaper, titled “3 Toughest LED Lighting Design Challenges Solved Using Aluminum Extrusions,” the aluminum extrusion major, Vitex Extrusion has addressed common issues faced by lighting designers, product engineers and fixture manufacturers when converting to LED lighting. The company advocates the use of aluminium as the heat sink for it being lightweight, highly efficient and reliable.
According to Vitex, due to its energy and maintenance saving advantages, LED lighting has enjoyed tremendous growth in both interior and exterior applications. However, as the whitepaper points out, in order to maintain the longevity of LED lights, efficient heat management is crucial. Although LED bulbs are cool to the touch, high temperatures are absorbed elsewhere in the fixture. By utilising custom aluminum extrusion heat sinks, heat can be rapidly transferred for ultimate thermal efficiency. Aluminum extrusions also provide designers the opportunity to create fully integrated fixtures out of aluminum that are lightweight, highly efficiency and reliability.
Given the small size of LEDs, and endless design configurations, manufacturing costs are often a concern. In its new whitepaper, the company discusses how the substitution of other materials and consolidation of multiple parts with aluminum extrusions can result in major cost savings through fewer components, reduced finishing, simplified assembly, and improved supply chain logistics.
