Tokyo-based Sony Business Solutions has come up with an innovative technology called the Brighturf. Sony Business Solution is affiliated to the Sony Group and its new LED light system, which can grow grass 6 times faster is making heads turn in the market for all the right reasons. Brighturf aims at growing grass commercially and is specially designed for sports like golf, soccer, baseball, etc. The technology works by mounting LED-based lights on a frame 1.5 meters above the grass that needs to be grown and Sony claims it to be the world’s first LED-based lighting system for growing grass. The light has the ability to cover an area of 90 square meters.
Wavelengths of 660m and 450m of red and blue lights are used. They are perfect to support photosynthesis for a continuous period of unlimited time. Through using lights to grow grass in not a new concept, this is the first time that LED lighting has been used. In the past, halogen based system was used, which ran hot too quickly and made the fresh grown grass wither. Brighturf is on its way of becoming not only one of the must-have tools for the sports market but it is going to serve as a huge beneficial tool for the turf growers as well.
