Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL)’S LED lamps are in much demand and the proof being that Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan and Nepal have ordered about 25 million LED lamps from Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL).
According to Saurabh Kumar, Managing Director, EESL, as the company offers LED lamps at the lowest prices globally, countries are taking interest in procuring the maximum amount of LED lamps from India. Recently, prices of LED bulbs were reduced to Rs 38, which were hovering around Rs 310 three years back in 2014.
India’s neighboring countries; Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan and Nepal have also expressed their wish that EESL should follow a similar LED lamp distribution program in their countries as well. Work on the same has already been started and EESL will now distribute 10 million lamps each in Sri Lanka and Nepal and another 1 million in Bhutan. In Bangladesh, it will take up a project funded by the Indian government that involves outdoor and street lighting programs. EESL will start work on the exports in the next three to six months, beginning with Bangladesh.
In India, EESL has taken up the task of distributing LED lamps to households at very nominal prices under the UJALA scheme. Whatever costs are incurred in investments and risk coverage, they are borne by EESL. Till now, EESL has distributed about 210 million LED lamps in India.
