Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) has focused on delivering services like providing the infrastructure and development programs since its inception. Lately, GDA has put on its agenda to help grow areas coming under it into Smart city, Green city, Hi-tech city and inclusive city having world class infrastructure. GDA has cleared a proposal to install LED lamps instead of sodium vapour bulbs which was the original plan as street lights on the Hindon Elevated Road.

Just, recently, the proposal has been cleared in a board meeting of GDA. The plan to switch from sodium vapour lamps to LED lamps was taken in order to cut down on energy costs in the long run. The move is not only going be cost effective but also make the environment greener due to the reduced carbon emission after the implementation of the pact. This will not only increase the safety around the road but also enhance the look of the new project.

“About 1,000 LED lamps will illuminate the elevated road from poles set up on its either sides. Steel brackets will emerge from poles on one side of the road to suspend another LED lamp below which will illuminate the road running underneath the elevated road,” said, Chakresh Jain, GDA executive engineer. The significant advantage of using LED lights is that it will save almost 2,200KW of electricity per day when compared to sodium vapour lamps.

The amount which will be saved by the installation is about Rs. 16,500 approximately per day. The inauguration of Hindon Elevated Road was to happen in July which has been postponed due to certain delays in the clearances. Work has been rescheduled and will be done soon to finish the project. This change means that another feather added, when it comes to transforming India into a better and greener place to be and live in.
