The journey towards a sustainable future is certainly going to be completed soon, with many important places like railways stations and commercial places switching to LEDs. The South Central Railway (SCR) zone has turned into the first 100% LED-lit zone in the country. The great achievement was accomplished on June 20 this year. This has been done by the installation of LED lights in the railway stations, offices, and residential quarters in Raichur and Yadgir, which come under Guntakal division.
The Indian Railway Minister Piyush Goyal had set June 30 as the deadline to complete this project in order to save electricity and reduce carbon emission by replacing conventional lighting with LEDs in all the railway stations in the country. Following the orders, officials of SCR abided and finished the project well before the given deadline.
There are six divisions under SCR — Hyderabad, Secunderabad, Guntur, Vijayawada, Guntkal, and Nanded — covering all of Telangana, major parts of Andhra Pradesh, parts of Karnataka and Maharashtra, and small stretches of Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
Umashankar Kumar, Chief Public Relations Officer of SCR, said it was a proud moment for all the officials, staff and electrical department of SCR who contributed immensely to achieve this important task.
Shakeel Ahmed, Senior PRO, said, “Around 1,35,417 LED luminaries were installed in all the 733 railway stations and 1,424 service buildings under SCR by the end of March — also a first among all the zones. The commissioning of LED lighting at all the residential quarters in the zone has contributed to making the zone 100% LED-lit now.”
