LG Display has entered a one-of-its-kind deal with Korean Furniture giant, Fursys Group for its specialised home furniture brand, iloom. The deal is supposed to mark the first ever convergence project for OLED lighting with furniture, and the desk light is claimed to be the first-of-its-kind to use OLED light panels as the
light source.
As the name depicts, iloom’s OLED desk light will be attached separately to the desk shelf with two 213 mm x 113 mm OLED panels located horizontally. The panel helps improve concentration as it is a surface light source that offers superior light quality covering a large area with minimum shadow. The concept is based on OLED light panels’ design differentiation and excellent light quality to produce highly uniform light. Also, it is the most appropriate light source for a studying environment as it offers gentle light without flicker.
With just 6mm thick aluminum casing, iloom’s ‘OLED desk light’ offers easy control with a touch button and has adjustable brightness with three settings. Thanks to the design development team that enables the company to achieve this simple and modern design by using a 0.88 mm OLED
light panel.
In fact, LG Display attracted public attention when it installed 1,100 OLED panels for reading lights at the KwanJeong Library at Seoul National University early last year. The university adopted the lighting solution because it offers excellent light quality, design differentiation with the thin, lightweight OLED panels, and reduces eye fatigue as the light waves are similar to natural sunlight. According to an SNU survey, 91% of the students in the KwanJeong Library find the OLED reading lights eye-friendly, and 94% say it improves concentration.
