Panchkula Municipal Corporation has decided to set up the smart street light system in a move to reduce its electricity bill. The municipal corporation has joined hands with Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) of the Government of India to carry on the task. LED come along with innumerable benefits. With many advantages, the LEDs have penetrated a lot of Indian streets.
EESL will replace the conventional lights with LED lights. The company will carry on a survey to identify areas that are not lit properly in the city. Also, they will set up a control and command centre for operating the smart street light system in the city. The centre will be equipped with an automatic system, which will provide information to officials about malfunctioning lights in the city. Moreover, the agency will be responsible for fixing faults in LED lights.
Currently, the street lights are manually switched on and off with the help of many people who are employed by the municipal corporation. After the smart street light system is installed, a person sitting at the centre can control the lights. The maintenance and replacement will be taken care by EESL for seven years. According to the corporation administrator, Rajesh Jogpal, the project has been given to the EESL as per the financial model decided by the Central Government. Also, the smart street light system will help in energy as well as cost savings.
