In an unplanned moved, the Parliament House in India was illuminated in diverse colours to symbolise the revocation of Article 370 and 35A, in a bold move that is meant to re-sketch the map and future of the state of Jammu and Kashmir. Parliament alongside other government buildings is generally illuminated every year on two occasions – Independence Day and Republic Day. The strings of lights are a decade-old tradition being maintained since the 1950s. However, conventional lights have been replaced with energy-saving LED lighting solutions. The replacement was done to aid in the government’s “save electricity campaign” to ensure that the power bill from the lighting comes down.
