Preferred Freezer is a renowned market leader in providing temperature controlled warehouses services. It has come a long way from being just a modest startup in New Jersey to becoming one of the largest public refrigerated warehousing companies with more than 1,600 employees and 270 million square feet of warehouse space. Its freezer facilities manage to generate over $300 million in sales. Preferred Freezer keeps a watchful eye over the factors playing major roles in its operations like maintaining quality product for their customers, speed and accuracy in picking (retrieving products from the warehouse), safety and cleanliness and a constant drive.

This drive to constantly keep updating and improving led the company to LEDs. Since it’s important that they keep their freezers as cold as possible, the metal halide lights were giving a bit of problem as they give off immense heat. So, having huge number of lights in the facility affected the cooling capacity. Also, the conventional lights were not able to give the desired strength of lighting required in the facility for the workers to responsibly receive and transport the goods, hand-stack products on a pallet, count and lot them, and put them into cold storage until the customer wants them.

Lower intensity HID lights not only hindered in the reading of barcode labels but also in maintaining cleanliness as the dock was so dark that the employees felt more susceptible to injury.

Upgrading to LED lights meant lower consumption of energy, lesser air conditioning and maintenance costs. Acuity Brands, a provider of LED lighting products and services, was selected to deliver the right lighting solutions.

Now, better lighting has not only electricity bills, but has also enhanced safety.
