San Francisco City Hall is the seat of government for the City and County of San Francisco, California as well as it is a Beaux-Arts monument to the City Beautiful movement that represented the idealistic American Renaissance.
Recently, the beautiful monument sported a scintillating blue, pink, and white color scheme at night. This was done to mark it as a tribute to Transgender Awareness Week. The dome and columns of the city’s iconic monument have been installed with 220 LED lights that render illumination during the nighttime.
The dynamic and color changing scheme commemorates everything from local sports franchises to political and social causes. After switching to the digitally-controlled LED light system in 2016, changing the colors on City Hall has turned easier and faster. The recent pastel display reflected the colors of the Transgender Pride flag, recognizing the second week of November as Transgender Awareness Week.
Transgender Awareness Week [November 12-19] is a time for transgender people and their allies to take action and bring attention to the community by educating the public and advancing advocacy around the issues of prejudice, discrimination, and violence that transgender people face.
