Philips Lighting, leading innovator in LED lighting and American Tower Corporation which specializes in wireless infrastructure have joined hands in order to increase the digital transformation of urban spaces and the adoption of smart city services in the United States.

The companies are developing 4G/5G enabled LED smart light pole. The poles will be used for roadways, parking and streets which will eventually increase and turn wireless broadband access better in dense urban localities along with energy efficient LED lighting system.
The safety and security is the prime concern for urban areas these days. In order to achieve that, Smart poles are designed such as, to help them deliver new and future digital applications including enhanced emergency services, acoustic sensing, air quality monitoring and autonomous vehicle navigation, to name a few. The new smart pole is designed to take advantage of a city’s existing real estate and concentrate services from multiple Wireless Carriers in a single pole. Also, the lighting on each smart pole can be monitored remotely to decrease maintenance costs and optimize energy savings using the Philips CityTouch connected street lighting management system.
