The civic body, Raipur Smart City Limited had installed timers to regulate automatic switching on and off of street lights in a bid to adopt energy efficient methods.
According to recent reposts by Raipur Municipal Corporation (RMC), this move has lowered down the electricity bill from Rs70 lakh to Rs50 lakh per month for the civic body which is nearly 15 percent.
According to an RMC official, around 51,000 electricity poles in 70 wards of the city are timer regulated, which were installed by Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL). These electricity poles are set up at 547 points which automatically regulate the LED lights at different times of the day such as dawn and dusk.
Furthermore, there are 54,000 electricity poles in 70 wards of Raipur City and the installation in around 2500 is under process. The status of the installed streetlights is monitored at Raipur Smart city’s command and control room ‘Daksh’. This control centre also passes on the status of the non-functional street lights to RMC.
