The Outer Ring Road in Hyderabad is gearing up to have the rocks and boulders dotting the 24 km stretch between Gachibowli and Shamshabad, aesthetically lit with LED floodlighting. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) will be installing the LED floodlights on the rock boulders. Tenders for the lighting work have already been floated, with the aim of completing the project in a couple of months.
A while back the Municipal Administration and Urban Development Principal Secretary Arvind Kumar had inspected the trial lighting set up on the stretch. The officials from HMDA have identified four locations, including the ones at Narsingi Bridge, Manchirevulu interchange, APPA-Rajendranagar-Kothaguda and Kothaguda-Shamshabad for the lighting makeover.
The primary reason for the lighting the boulders and rocks is to enhance the along the 158 km long facility that rings the city beyond the suburbs, which has a lot of rocky terrain along the way.
The project is going to cost Rs. 2 crore and a private agency will be hired for carrying on the operation and maintenance. The project cost is inclusive of operation and maintenance of the lights for five years.
The private firm will look after the lighting set up and closely monitor the lights and ensure 98 per cent glowing of lights. Also, significant measures will be undertaken to keep any inconvenience due to the installation of LED floodlighting on the boulders at bay for the motorists.
Moreover, the lighting will be put up in such a way that it highlights boulders using mild lights, which are easy on the eye. Since the Gachibowli-Shamshabad stretch of outer ring road witnesses regular movement of VIP traffic, the HMDA has been instructed by the government to lay emphasis on the cleanliness and beautification at par with the stretch leading to the Shamshabad airport.
