Exhibitor Speak
The general atmosphere at the event after speaking to a number of exhibitors was quite positive as they felt the LED industry in India was visibly picking up and consumer queries were more specific concerning quality and performance. Mr. Mohandas K, Head-Business unit of Firefly LED Products one of the largest integrated manufacturers of LED lights in India feels the LED manufacturing sector in the country is looking bright. “In the last 3 years there has been a lot of improvement in terms of manufacture of LED lights. A lot of manufacturers have come up and we see many more are ready to enter the market.” Applauding the Government’s initiative to promote LED lamps and encourage local manufacturing he further comments, “If you’re importing products, they should be certified by BIS which is doing a good job in helping the Government enable manufacturing within the country rather than import products.”
International exhibitors too found India to be a good market for their products. Speaking of MLS’ foray into India last year, Mr. Ita Lin CEO of MLS India said the expansion into India was a sound decision from a business perspective and even though the Indian Prime Minister’s announcement of the Make-in-India campaign made it more difficult to import goods into the country, MLS is happy to support local manufacturers by supplying electrical drivers and other housing parts to make them more competitive.
