In a bid to attract more tourists and increase security, Mahim beach is the tenth beach to undergo beautification. In fact, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has been beautifying beaches in the western suburbs of Mumbai. Under the project, they will put up decorative street lamps at Mahim Beach as well as play rides and gym equipment for the public in the surrounding play area.

Marve beach is also going to be lit up. BMC will create a pathway and install the LED lamps alongside. The lamps will be decorative, however, not like the ones at Juhu beach. Children will be able to take play rides and the public will be able to use the open gym, according to officials at BMC.

The main agenda behind lighting the beaches is to enhance security especially during late night and for women. Around nine beaches have already received lighting upgrade including Juhu beach in October 2017. Also, after the implementation of the lighting project problems such as garbage dumping, open defecation and open drinking have greatly been reduced.

The basic idea is to illuminate the area to increase tourism and control other anti-social activities. The part of the beach which comes under BPT is kept aside as it requires special permission. The plan also includes creating a platform for boats. The cost is Rs 1.26 crore including lamps and instrument and other infrastructure work.

Beaches such as Seven Bungalows beach, Aksa beach, Erangal beach, Danapani beach, Marve beach, Manori beach, Silver beach, and Gorai beach have already been installed with LED lighting solutions by BMC. The only beach remaining, is Dadar, which will be lit up soon.
