Around 52,000 streetlights across the city of Pune will be installed with LED bulbs at a cost of 19 crore. The lighting upgrade was given a go ahead by the civic committee. The multiple benefits of LED lighting solutions have resulted in an increase in their usage.
The lighting project is advantageous for the city as it will enhance the security and safety of the streets. Moreover, the streets will be lit in a better way. The other benefits are energy saving as well as the cutting down the expenditure of the public money used on electricity bills of the streetlights.
Also, foremost priority will be given to the streetlights poles which do not have bulb fixture. The civic body has planned to install more streetlights in the coming financial year.
The LEDs will be fitted on those poles too. The streetlights which already have CFL or halogen lamps will be upgraded with LED lamps in different phases. The initial decision was taken back in the year 2015 after a directive from the Union government although it got delayed due to certain reasons.
