Kumbh Mela, a pilgrimage with the largest congregation on Earth celebrating the Triveni Sangam, the sacred confluence of the Ganga, the Yamuna and the mystical Saraswati commenced on January 15 on Makar Sankranti, which was also the first bathing day or ‘Shahi Snaan’. The festival of Mahashivratri on March 4 will mark the last bathing day of the grand pilgrimage.

With millions of worshippers thronging from all across India and NRIs from different parts of the world, Kumbh is the world’s largest human gathering. UNESCO has already included Kumbh in the list of “Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity”.

To make Kumbh 2019 an event of unmatched grandeur, the Government of Uttar Pradesh has undertaken numerous measures for ensuring the efficient running of the Mela. In order to maintain comfort, safety and security and facilitate tourists a city of 4,200 premium tents was established on PPP model and about 1,000 CCTV cameras have been set up in the entire mela area for better monitoring and mitigations of risks that can lead to potential disasters.

Moreover, for providing a complete Divya and Bhavya experience to the worshippers and tourists, more than 40,700 LED lights have been installed in the mela area and surrounding avenues. However, the area is primarily illuminated by 25,000 High Power Surya LED Street & Flood Lights, making it the largest contributor of lighting at Kumbh Mela 2019. The multiple benefits of LEDs have increased their application all across the world. Energy efficiency and durability are driving factors in increasing the demand for LED lighting.
