The Sri Lankan government has received approval from the Cabinet to award a project to Korean Telecom Cooperation to replace traditional street lighting with LED street lights in Colombo along with other main cities of Sri Lanka.
Earlier, the Korean Telecom Cooperation had presented a proposal for the implementation of a project for the replacement of conventional street lights with Smart LED street lights. The multiple benefits of LED lighting such as energy-saving and cost-effective have played a key role in this important decision.
An Officials’ Committee had been appointed by the Cabinet of Ministers to examine the Korean company’s proposal and submit its recommendations.
Minister Vajira Abeywardena, Minister of Internal & Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government has put forward a proposal to implement the project for the installations of the smart controlled LED street lights by awarding the same to the Korean Telecom Cooperation.
