Cree, Inc. has recently expanded its XQ LED family by adding XLamp® XQ-A LED – the smallest LED building block available for designs that use white and color LEDs thus allow customers (lighting manufacturers) to differentiate products in the crowded marketplace. With a broad range of colour options, the ceramic XQ-A LED delivers lighting-class reliability, quality, and long-life performance comparable to Cree’s other ceramic high-power LEDs such as the high performing XP and XT.
The new LEDs leverage the proven XQ platform to provide optical symmetry, consistency across all colours, and tiny 1.6-mm footprint to improve colour mixing thereby simplifying the production process for lighting manufacturers to assist them quickly and cost-effectively expand their product portfolios. The XQ-A delivers up to 89 lumens and is characterized at 85°C. It is available in white color temperatures ranging from 2700K to 6200K and CRI options of 70, 80, and 90. The LED is also available in red, red-orange, PC amber, green, blue and royal blue.
According to Matt Pinter, co-founder and lead design engineer for Smart Vision Lights, the introduction of the XQ-A LED is just the extension of the same compact XQ package that people know and like. “Unlike mid-power colour LEDs, this compact, ceramic-based LED will allow us to put two, three or even four LEDs under our new silicone lens technology where we could only use one LED before thus providing us more options to increase the capability of machine vision and industrial LED lights,” he said adding that this generates more light for industrial applications without compromising lifetime.
In another development, Cree has announced that its IG Series parking garage luminaires and KR Series downlights are now available to ship in bulk and have successfully been implanted in commercial applications. Cree’s innovative WaveMax Technology offers a design that is both intelligent and easy to use in turn facilitating users with a superior visual experience. Built to meet challenges specific to parking garages at an affordable price, the IG Series from Cree provides a low-glare, brilliant light that is unmatched, providing safer environments for its users by casting shadows aside.
“Cree continues to prove that long-lasting LED technology can do infinitely more than save energy and maintenance costs – it’s the smarter choice for our bottom line, tenants and buyers experiences,” said Steve Maranos, vice president of technology, CMC Group, Inc. “With Cree’s IG Series luminaire, we’re rethinking what lighting can do. It is unlike any solution on the market – delivering the modern design, controllability and low-glare illumination with performance that exceeds our expectations for any parking application, all while delivering significant ongoing savings at an affordable price.”
Offering a similar lighting experience, but focused on bringing better light indoors – Cree’s KR Series downlights offer a more uniform lighting experience than traditional applications. Florida International University (FIU) in Miami recently installed its Graham Center Ballroom with the KR Series downlights, removing hotspots and poor light distribution. “Cree’s LED technology delivers a better lighting experience that is more uniform than our previous downlights. We’re also benefiting from superior, continuous dimming, which is very important to providing the right amount of light for the various types of meetings hosted at the center,” said Sanyo Mathew, senior director of Graham Center at FIU.
