Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (Tata Power-DDL) has taken the initiative of making the capital streets brighter by replacing the existing High-Pressure Sodium Vapour (HPSV) lamps and Semi-High Mast Light (SHML) with the eco- friendly and energy efficient LED Lights.

In collaboration with Havells India, the discom is installing LED Lights in 104 wards of North Delhi Municipal Corporation in the second phase of its street light project. The power distribution company has already converted 85,000 street light points to LED lights in the first phase of the project. The work on the second phase is in its full pace and more than 52,000 LED lights out of 1, 37,000 have already been replaced.

According to a senior Tata Power Delhi official, the second phase is expected to be completed by the end of this month. “This project helps Tata Power- DDL in achieving an incredible reduction of demand of street lighting, which coincides with peak load, thereby reducing the overall peak demand by more than 15 MW, translating into considerable power saving,” said officials.

Speaking about the initiative, Sanjay Banga, CEO, Tata power- DDL said: “The LED streetlight project is important as it will result in better illumination of roads while ensuring energy efficiency and saving more than 15 MW of peak demand.”
