Around the world renowned monuments and sites like London’s Big Ben, Paris’ Eiffel Tower, London Bridge, Sydney Opera House and many others light up during evening hours. Taking a cue from these, the three famous buildings in India – Rashtrapati Bhawan, North Block and South Block – located at the eminent Raisina Hills got a permanent makeover. The three buildings have been embellished with beautiful and dynamic Philips’ architectural LED lighting system which offers a palette of 16 million colours to illuminate iconic government buildings which change colour every few seconds.
“A lit up Raisina Hills is now going to be a permanent feature during evening hours,” reveals an officer who is associated with this project. As of now, the lights have started functioning at the Prime Minister’s Office and the South Block. The rest of the buildings including the North block, which houses Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Finance and Rashtrapati Bhavan is undergoing the transition and will get the complete revamp soon. “All three buildings would be lit for few hours every day,” the officer adds.
The building has been completely lit by energy saving LED lights whilst taking a cue from the Prime Minister’s Bijli Bachao Abhiyaan. The appeal and look of the building has been completely enhanced by installations of beautiful LED and is a visual eye treat for tourists as well as residents of Delhi. “The cost for this is not much as energy efficient LED lights have been installed. And for these only a minimum maintenance cost is going to be required.
The lighting will make these buildings a must visit sight on a tourists itinerary,” explains one ministry official. It has taken almost a year to get the project done and was undertaken by he Ministry of Urban Affairs and the Central Public Works Department (CPWD). The total cost for the project cost over 30 crores. For now, the lights will be lit up to mark occasions like Republic Day, Independence Day and Diwali.
