Replacement of conventional bulbs with LED bulbs was a huge success in Ranchi and now the Jharkhand Bijli Vitaran Nigam Ltd (JBVNL) is gearing up distributes fans and tube lights that would save energy among consumers from mid-January, under the Centre’s Unnat Jyoti by Affordable LEDs for All (UJALA) scheme. The specially designed scheme was launched by Chief Minister Raghubar Das in 2015 and just within a little more than a year’s time close to 80 lakh 9 watt LED bulbs were distributed by JBVNL among 13 lakh consumers. The campaign was such a big success that it even bagged the National Energy Conservation Award 2016 in December.
The new LED tube lights are going to be of 20 Watts against the conventional tube lights of 50 to 60 Watt. The fans that are going to be distributed are already rated five stars by the Centre’s Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) and will be of 50 watts against the 80 Watt conventional fans. The tube lights are expected to cut down the energy consumption by two-third or at least half while the fans will cut down consumption by 30%. Numerous counters will be set up at offices of JBVNL.
