The Common Council of Johnstown approved a contract through National Grid to purchase lights to upgrade the lighting on city streets and city buildings. There are around 844 street lights which will be replaced by LED lighting.
The lighting project has been given a go ahead due to the city’s desire to ‘conserve energy and reduce energy costs’ through the installation of LED street lighting system upgrades as LEDs are energy saving.
The city last May published a request for qualifications seeking proposals from interested companies for an Energy Performance Contract to acquire existing street lighting from National Grid and the procurement and installation of lighting fixtures needed to replace the existing lighting under the city’s ownership.
The city’s aim is to utilise the saved money from the lighting project in energy saving building upgrades.
