Following the national drive of switching over to energy efficient LED bulbs, Madhya Pradesh takes the lead with 43% respondents in favour of LED bulbs distribution followed by Andhra Pradesh, where 30% of people have already opted and Gujarat staying at third spot with 32% of people adapting to this shift. This is the outcome of the survey conducted across 56 cities and 20 states recently by Local Circles, a social group from Gurgaon, now Gurugram in the state of Haryana.

According to K Yatish Rajawat, chief strategy officer, Local Circles, LED bulbs distribution stall can be found almost in every corner of Bhopal, making less energy-consuming and more cost-efficient luminaries available at a minimum rate of Rs 75-85 per piece depending on quality. While a hefty around 40% of the respondents expressed their unawareness of any such policy, a considerable chunk agreed to make an effort to procure them from the nearby distribution centres.

In overall report, figure shows that 64% consumers across the country still don’t know how to get these LED bulbs on account of fact that the scheme has not been properly communicated to consumers. Every state electricity board (SEB) communicates to its customers by sending them bills through post. Many SEBs have yet to use bills to communicate this offer to consumers.

Respondents feel the process for procuring LED bulbs should be made further simple by communicating in all languages, including local regional language in advertisements, and on bills being sent to consumers. They feel SMS from local distribution agency and a hotline, where citizens can call and gather information can be a big help. They say these bulbs should carry specific identification codes, which are visible so that this stock is not sold in open market.
