All around the world, conventional streetlights are being replaced by LEDs. The recent addition to the list is Billings, Montana. Northwestern Energy plans on replacing its street lamps with energy-efficient LED lighting solution and some have already been installed in Billings.
Six of the new lights have been put up in Billings on Broadway between First Avenue North and Second Avenue North, Gabel Road near South 32nd Street West, and Babcock Street in the Heights. The installation of these lights is basically a part of Northwestern’s beta testing to determine, which LEDs are apt and should be invested in.
The initial plan is to replace 4,320 streetlights in Billings and 43,000 around the state. The energy saving and durability features make them the perfect choice as they are 50% more efficient and last two to three times longer than the high-pressure sodium lights, according to Northwestern.
The replacement of the conventional lights with LEDs will be completed in Billings and Helena by 2019. Whereas, other parts of Montana will undergo lighting replacement by the end of 2022.
