Ram Jhula is going to get dynamic lighting, according to Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC). It is the only cable-styled bridge of Central India that provides connectivity to East and West Nagpur and is also close to Nagpur Railway Station.
Presently, during night, lights from Walua Stone building of railway station provide a mesmerising effect. Taking inspiration from the same, the civic body decided to add lighting solutions to enhance the beauty of the bridge. Generally, dynamic lighting solutions are installed in suspension bridges all around the world. Therefore, the same thing is being planned for the bridge.
According to the plan proposed by the Electric Department, cables of Ram Jhula would get LEDs to provide special lighting effects. The numerous advantages of LED lighting solutions make them the perfect choice, the most important being its energy efficiency.
The cable-stayed bridge is about 60 to 80 metres long and below is complex railway track structure of crisscross lines of North-South, East-West direction of Indian Railways. Moreover, the new lighting would not be too bright or distract the commuters due to low glare LED lighting. Furthermore, LED lights are also environment-friendly as they use less energy.
The special lighting technology on bridge can also be handy if one wants to flash information relating to traffic movement, weather updates and other aspect related to environment. Government advertisement or message can also be displayed to reach out to maximum people.
The cable-stayed bridge is part of Central Avenue and Kingsway stretch that is flowing with continuous movement of vehicles to and fro and is one of the important junctions of the city.
The lighting system, which will be installed, will work by changing the colour temperature and intensity of light automatically throughout the day, depending on the time of the day. This will be done by mixing the light output from two different lamps with dedicated optic technology providing varying balances of cool as well as warm illumination.
