The popular monument Safdarjung’’s Tomb was installed with LED lights. The new architectural LED lights will be lit after sunset to elevate the beauty of the historical monument.

The iconic monument, a sandstone and marble mausoleum of Nawab Safdar Jung built in the 18th century, was illuminated following an Archeological Survey of India (ASI) project. Union Culture and Tourism Minister Prahalad Singh Patel and BJP parliamentarian Meenakshi Lekhi inaugurated the project.

Around 213 energy-efficient and technology advanced LED lights have been installed to accentuate the architectural beauty including arches and minarets of the tomb. The addition of these energy-efficient lights would consume 62 per cent less electricity when compared to traditional light fixtures.

The illumination of the monument from 7-11 p.m. will cast light on the domes, ramparts, minarets, arches and balconies from different directions. According to ASI officials, the project was completed in around seven months which cost approximately Rs 8,800. The façade of the iconic monument was lit before also despite the new lights, the monument will not be open for the public at night, as per the reports.

ASI has previously illuminated the Red Fort, Humayun’s Tomb and Purana Qila. Qutub Minar and Tughlakabad Fort are also expected to be illuminated soon.
