On 2nd October 2018, Burj Khalifa was lit up with LED lights commemorating the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
The Iconic Building’s mesmerising LED display was not only attractive; but also extremely engaging as it broadcasted Gandhi Ji’s longer than life philosophies. According to the statement, the Ministry of External Affairs said the storyline projected in LED videos showcased the relevance of Mahatma’s life and philosophies in today’s world and his ability to inspire the generation of today.
The Burj Khalifa, erstwhile known as the Burj Dubai before its inauguration in 2010, is a skyscraper in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. With a total height measuring 829.8 m (2,722 ft), the Burj Khalifa has been the tallest structure in the world since its topping out in late 2008.
The Indian missions arranged LED video projections highlighting Bapu’s life and philosophy at 120 locations globally, including at famous landmarks such as Dubai’s Burj Khalifa and the UK’s Piccadilly Circus.
“To celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, missions abroad will continue to highlight the relevance of Gandhi in a unique way — through projecting his message in the form of an LED video on iconic buildings in these countries or on other prominent locations,” the statement said.
India’s ambassador to UAE Navdeep Suri said, “I am delighted that we are celebrating one of the tallest personalities the world has seen by screening his image on the iconic building. I am sure that the events we will organize over the next few months will not only remind all of us about the enduring message of Mahatma Gandhi but also motivate us to put some of his lessons into practice.”
“Such a joy to see the Burj Khalifa lit up with Gandhiji – visuals, text and music in perfect harmony. A big thanks to our friends at Emaar and the great team at @cgidubai for making it happen,” he added.
Marking the event as a gesture of manifestation of the strong friendly ties between India & UAE, Consul General Vipul applauded at the support of the Emaar and the leadership of UAE for especially organizing the LED display on Burj Khalifa.
