The Delhi government recently announced that it has started working on illuminating 7,438 dark sports falling in the entire North and East MCD areas with the target to curb down accident rates caused by these spots. According to the officials, they have already started working on the project and it will be completed before March 31. Public Works Department of the Delhi Government and the NGO Safetipin has been given the task of conducting an audit and submit report to the government.
According to Satyendar Jain, Minister for PWD in the Delhi Government, installation of lights to illuminate the dark spots will be done only after getting a full audit report from Safetipin. This particular NGO has been given due importance and the huge responsibility of performing the audit because it was this NGO which first identified these dark spots and reported to the Delhi Police.
Spokesperson of Municipal Corporation of Delhi further added his views on the progress saying, “We have identified 4,800 dark sports in our jurisdiction. These spots have been grouped ward-wise and work order has already been issued. The concerned Councilors of the wards have been given responsibility to verify the illumination by LED lights. Already 1.98 lakh streetlights with LED lights in our area have been replaced and we shall complete this project as well,” he asserted.
