Aimed at fulfilling one of its poll promises – Eradication of Dark Spots – in the national capital, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government and Public Works Department have issued tender for the installation of smart LED street lights. In the first phase, a total number of about 1,150 lights will be installed in the New Delhi area.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had also launched a scheme called ‘Mukhyamantri Street Light Yojana’ in September with an aim to completely eradicate the dark spots. The target of the AAP government is to install a total number of 2.1 lakh street lights across the city. However, in the first phase of the project the PWD will install about 1150 smart LED streetlights in New Delhi area under Mukya Mantri Sadak Punar Nirman Yojana.
Tender has been floated for the project and will take a month time to open. As per a report, once the agency will be hired, survey will also be conducted across the New Delhi area to identify the dark spots. After which the smart LED lights with a 360 degree coverage technique will be installed.
The smart LED street lights will be automatic and will be remotely monitored and controlled through cloud based server suitable for all weather conditions. The estimated cost of the first part of the street light project is Rs 97,87,750. Out of 1150 lights, 800 will be 40 watt and 350 unit of streetlights will be 20 Watt with insulated bracket.
